Five Common Garage Door Opener, Photo Eye, Transmitter, Spring & Cable Problems & Solutions in Las Vegas, NV

The security offered by your garage door is only good when the door itself is working properly. There are several reasons that your garage door may not be working like it should. Of course there will be problems that can’t be solved on your own, but there are several that you can tackle without the help of a garage door professional. VF&I Garage Doors would like to walk you through some common problems we see with garage doors that can be fixed without our help.

Garage Door Won’t Close All the Way

If you are having a hard time getting your garage door to close, you should check the photo eyes on either side of the garage door. These photo eyes transmit a beam between them and if that is interrupted for any reason, your door won’t close. If there isn’t an object in the way, you may just need to adjust them so they are properly aligned. If they look like they are properly aligned and it still won’t close, they may be getting old and need to be replaced.

My Garage Door Closes then Opens Again

If your garage door closes all the way only to open back up again, you may need to adjust the close limit settings of your garage door opener. If they are set too high, the door will close all the way and make contact with the ground when it is programmed to go farther. It will automatically open again because it thinks it is hitting something and crushing it. Look in your garage door opener operations manual to see how to adjust this setting.

My Garage Door Won’t Open

There are a couple of reasons you might experience a garage door that won’t open at all. The first and most obvious thing you should check is the batteries in your transmitters. This includes the one hanging on the wall. Often you don’t even think to replace the batteries until they don’t work anymore. If this isn’t the problem, you may have an issue with the springs that lift your garage doors. If you have a broken spring, you should never try to fix the springs on your own. It can be very dangerous and requires the right tools and equipment as well as the knowledge and experience of a professional garage door repair company.

Garage Door Opener Works but Door Won’t Open

Automatic garage door openers have a safety feature that allows the garage door to be disconnected from the opener in case you experience loss of power. This will enable you to open the door manually if need be. It is a switch usually attached to a rope or knob that will unhook the garage door from the opener. Once the door is closed, reattach and then you should be able to use the transmitter once again.

Garage Door Closes Loud & Fast

This is usually a sign of broken cables or broken springs. Both of these issues shouldn’t be dealt with on your own and require professional help. They can both pose dangerous risks and require the right equipment, tools and expertise to solve the problem.
